This is why when people talk about AI not really being intelligent, but just glorified word association, I say, is that really any different from the average person?

Very little. (Unless you mean anti abortion and pro death penalty, that Venn diagram is a circle)

As a parent of two very strong willed kids, I will say that spanking (distinct from beating) has to be at least on the table. It’s not the go-to, but the fallback if all else fails, and it does represent my failure to reach them, but sometimes it’s the only thing that gets them to understand how serious something is.
In contrast, their (ultra Christian) grandma would call me soft, she used to go straight to spanking without warning, she felt that you shouldn’t threaten, just do, and they’d learn soon enough. I would much rather threaten a spanking than actually do it… And it works, at this point I haven’t spanked either kid in a couple years, though I have threatened it maybe twice in the last year.

My unicorn is invisible and pink.

Can it still involve their genitals?
Have you blocked me yet? If not, it might save time to do it now…

I always noticed that too…

There are electric cars that are not Teslas…

This is America, you might as well ask men to cut their balls off …

The timing is unfortunate… I’d like to buy a used EV, and I’ve seen a few I like on carvana with very low miles for cheap… but I’ve been living in an apartment and would have no place to change it… Now I’m buying a house with (among many other things) a 240v outlet in the garage specifically for changing an EV… But it’s going to be a couple weeks, and those used EVs are dwindling…

Seriously? I get yelled at at least once every time I ride. People have thrown drinks at me, spit at me numerous times (though their aim is generally very poor)
I’ve even been run off the road a few times, intentionally (they admitted it after I caught up with them at the next light and confronted them)

Just go read up on networking and you’ll realize that wouldn’t make sense.
That right there is you being an asshole. If that’s who you are, that’s fine, but at least be honest about it. I know I’m an asshole, so you’re not hurting my feelings any by turning it back on me.
If you would like to not be an asshole, a good start would be to accept that you don’t know everything, and just because your experience differs from mine doesn’t mean I’m wrong. It’s fully possible what I observed between 30 and 15 years ago was unusual, or maybe it was common then but isn’t now- and if you had led with that, I might have conceded that you may at least have more current knowledge than I. It’s also possible I didn’t explain myself clearly enough, and we’re just misunderstanding each other- a layer 8 problem, if you will.
you think the modem is broadcasting your computer’s MAC address.
Well, considering I was seeing arp packets from mac addresses of every other machine on my segment pretty much continuously, what conclusion would you come to?

Yeah but I think this legislation is targeting consumer grade equipment, professional tends to be more expensive than consumers are willing to spend, so I wasn’t really considering it part of the equation.

I happen to know when my (now ex-) wife cheated on me, she raw dogged him… Never would have expected that from her, she’s such a germophobe otherwise…

You don’t even need all that, if you’re just doing wifi routing, one wired nic and one wifi card will do, if you want wired routing too, just one more nic will do, then use a dumb switch to get the multiple ports.

How many strictly wired routers are there anymore? (Somewhat rhetorical question, but I am a little curious)

Be less of an asshole, it’s free. I’ve been sniffing packets from cable modems since the 90s. I even remember the mac address of my first network card - 00a0cc52cac7, because mediaone gave out persistent hostnames based on your mac address before they were bought by at&t. I once putty’d into my machine from Katmandu just because I could. Incidentally, when I called at&t support to find out if this would continue, their support rep had no idea what I was talking about, and after I mentioned mac addresses, he suggested I call apple.

Every broadband connection I’ve had looks at the mac address of whatever is behind the modem, the modem essentially passes it through.
Yes, and we can argue all day long about the morality of that specific way of raising animals for meat, but that doesn’t touch the question of whether or not it’s moral to eat meat in general.
