It’s typical in Judaism and some branches of Christianity. But why would someone who doesn’t believe in God do it like the creator of this meme ?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some signs that you need new friends?
24·3 天前I’m expecting most answers to be about how to recognize bad people, but here is one if your friends are good decent individuals:
When you fantasize about doing activities with friends, you know none of your current group would vibe with that.
“Quality clickbait” is the best description I have.
It’s an entertaining channel, prone to reviewing flashy stuff, rather than useful tips as the name might suggest. But not completely stupid, those guys have some knowledge and skills to back it up.
I can’t say how it changed over time, I’ve only watched them occasionally over the last 2-3 years.
And? Did they get married in the end?
Except the most powerful force in the universe - ego
Arabian Peninsula needs to unify into one country for the purpose of hosting football world cups.
This thing with alternating between Qatar and then Saudi Arabia doesn’t make sense. Neither of them have enough cities or stadiums for a proper World Cup. But together Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and UAE could do it.

7·8 天前Saudi obsession with acquiring anything related to sports is something to be studied.
Nothing wrong with loving sports, it’s the way they go about it that’s offputting.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What historical concert do you wish you could attend?
7·8 天前Nightwish at Wacken 2013
All the recordings make it seem as the peak moment for the band. They had a few more good years, and are basically on a hiatus these days.
Mainstream archeologists would like you to believe that.
But the truth will come out - it was aliens.
If you want to learn it for fun, practice and personal projects - yes.
Do you already know another programming language? If so learning additional languages is a benefit, the more you know the easier will be to pick up new ones. If you’re just starting, Python is a better choice to get over the basics.

284·9 天前Regardless, we should reward socially beneficial behavior. Billionaires are humans, and as such trainable through a correct reward structure. Harm reduction is important.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would a single globally governing body be a good thing? Why or why not. Edit~ abandoned by OP
26·10 天前No, it reduces the effort needed for corruption.
The smaller the circle of power is, the less effort is needed to corrupt the entire system. Also, it would prevent experimentation. Trial and error is an important method of finding out what works. One governing body would have one set of rules, we would never discover if a better set of rules exist.
It doesn’t help that “vanilla” flavored products usually use a tiny drop of artificial vanillin.
Real vanilla has a much richer amazing taste. But even the artificial stuff would be ok if they just put more of it. That shit is cheap, pour it in dammit.

World News@lemmy.world•About 60,000 migrants arrive in Ceuta in 24 hours, Spanish territory's leader saysEnglish
119·13 天前Tbh, I’m kind of impressed by the reaction of the police and military. I know it’s not popular to make this statement in Spain at the moment, only criticisms allowed.
But imagine if 60k people suddenly try to invade your small city (population ~80k). And while you mess up initially and they all get in, you manage to get most of them out within 24h. Without shooting to kill. It deserves some recognition.

Not sure what they want this time, most likely it’s related to Spain signing some treaties with Algeria a few days ago.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How different does love really feel for people? What are your thoughts on this?
4·14 天前I hope it exists. Feeling extremely attracted (in love) to someone is very different to feeling love (unconditionally caring). One can move into the other and those are the best relationships. I’ve met a few, never experienced myself.
But even caring about people without being sexual is worthwhile. We usually call it friendship, but there is an additional deep level of it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Spanish people or people residing in Spain: How are you affected by the current wildfires? How do you experience the situation?
3·16 天前No idea, some kind of bug, or too much traffic. Works fine for me.
Actually, does your browser have a referer stripping option or plugin? Some kind of overzealous tracking prevention?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Spanish people or people residing in Spain: How are you affected by the current wildfires? How do you experience the situation?
9·16 天前You shouldn’t be worried anyway. By the end of September it’s highly likely all the fires will be gone.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Spanish people or people residing in Spain: How are you affected by the current wildfires? How do you experience the situation?
17·16 天前In Barcelona some days there’s a weird haze in the air. A colleague from the suburbs recently had a small panic thinking he needs to evacuate, but the firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.
For people living in the suburbs of Madrid it’s a real danger. That one is out of control and no end in sight.
There a lot more, all over Spain. Most of the county is uninhabited so it doesn’t impact too many people. But if you’re driving somewhere, be careful.
Edit: Here’s a live map

If wonder if they will just fill it with non-printable unicode characters. It would be the easiest to implement, and fairly effective for most casual users.
Sure it’s trivial to make a tool to strip the text of those characters. But someone would have to be dedicated to cheating to bother.
