You’re joking right? These are AI data centers and such. They aren’t hosting general public cloud servers.

At least here in the US the people arguing against data centers are also against housing developments and want to reduce urban sprawl (by say tearing down all the empty malls and building apartments there for example). At least that’s what it seems like to me, someone against the never ending suburbia.

at least there’s no bloody rain in Melbourne this weekend!
I should hope there’s no bloody rain…
(Sorry not sorry I had to. I needed a chuckle)

No I read that. My experience is that relative skill doesn’t matter. Introduce AI and you’ll churn out slop, not solve problems

Such a strong science backed rebuttal.
I’m gonna go rethink my entire life now.
Being aware of the numerous massive lawsuits currently being levied against AI companies for their theft, reading research papers on cognitive decline in AI users, and being aware of where the majority of energy in the US comes from, especially for new AI datacenters, really does have a cognitive impact, but it isn’t decline.

Bro whatever you’re smoking please share.

Lol. Way to show how little you know. I swear AI bros get the most butt hurt over provable stuff.
I’ve stated my experience elsewhere but I’m a senior software engineer, 20 something years of experience. I have actually created a neural network from the ground up for a previous company. But sure, go off about how little experience I have.

I didn’t link any because the internet exists. Spend literally five seconds on google.

Their conclusions are right in the abstract in black and white terms. And this is just a teeny tiny sample of the papers that exist all saying the same thing.

This is where you go look at any of the studies and start figuring out for yourself.
They’ve been looking at it in several contexts including software development, general problem solving, reading comprehension, writing ability, and more.
In some they were instructed to use LLMs certain ways, in others they weren’t. That’s the neat thing about so many studies being done is they’ve used a wide set of methodologies.

That sounds like Socrates’ argument that writing would weaken people’s memories.
Saying it leads to cognitive decline is saying you can’t use an LLM and have critical thinking, which I can’t agree with.
That’s not me saying it. MIT, Harvard, and others have released numerous studies that show using LLMs does exactly that, reduce critical thinking. You can disagree all you want but until you do the science you’re disagreeing with a growing body of actual experts.

From a worker standpoint, while you’re researching that thing you can find for yourself, someone of equal skill to you that is leveraging AI has solved 3 of those issues.
And I’ve rejected their code for unnecessary complexity and issues they overlooked all three times so actually nothing was solved. AI does not increase productivity. At all. Study after study after study has confirmed this. AI can spew out what sounds reasonable to people of low skill. That’s it.
I don’t use AI, but I’ve watched enough other people who’s intelligence I used to respect devolve into token monkeys who understand nothing anymore.

You’ll hear no arguments from me. Let’s cut energy usage for a lot of things. Let’s read books more. Let’s spend more time outside. Let’s eat less red meat.
That isn’t some gotcha you think it is. A lot of people finding the alarm over AI have been working to reduce their carbon footprint

Only if you don’t care about your own cognitive decline, property theft, and climate damage

Torvalds has slowly been slipping I feel. Just more cracks.
It seems like maintainers doing a thankless job in FOSS are some of the most affected by the AI mania

I keep hearing great things about God of War, so might finally play God of War III

Just using simple translation would not add all that formatting. Plenty of non English speakers use translation tools. People aren’t buying it because you on one hand say no AI/vibecoding but then on the other hand use lots AI tools on the site and for posting.
It comes across as very “oh no you can trust me I’m totally not lying despite the evidence otherwise”
Edit to add: just listing the code frameworks/languages also means nothing. You can use AI to vibecode in most languages. The fact you’re using two of the most widely used is not evidence either way

And the lack of formatting that I would expect from a human. No explanation for what makes it special or why we should care, just a list of features. This just screams vibe coded data grab

That’s still easy enough to get at most home hardware stores.

Just pop the side onto a drill press, add a few holes. That metal isn’t too thick
Solar panel farms actually work really well with rewilding projects. Not forests sure but if instead of where we grow fuel corn we instead dropped solar and rewild them for more power than the corn can provide plus biodiversity.
And as others said there’s plenty of empty spaces already existing that most of what you list can use. There’s two malls near me with half the shops or more empty, an abandoned hotel (though it was recently announced it would be converted into apartments so, ya know, proving my point) and a field bought by a hospital just being left as bare dirt (because they say they might need it some day).
