It’s to normalize it by acknowledging it and implying that acknowledgement will lead to actions against it. It’s a role of a controlled opposition and controlled media not to act like a Hollywood movie where “great leader can do no wrong”. That type of thing will fuel real opposition if the only option allowed is loyalty.
You passify a population not by demanding their total loyalty. You passify those that would otherwise resist you by acknowledging the cruelty and injustice; while directing them to the black hole of a useless opposition or hopelessness.
The media plays that role of directing resistance to that controlled opposition that has no legs; or to a feeling of hopelessness at the scale of the injustice and inaction. That is why the coverage of fascism is almost entirely centered around “pointing at bad thing”, offering up reasons for why it isn’t being stopped, but dangling some vague hope that the system will correct itself.
It’s less about Greenland having a spine and it’s Allie’s in Europe not having a spine. If European nations would stand beside Greenland and offer support and troops America would likely back off. But Greenland should be expected to fight this on their own? I don’t think so.
Europe not making a massive deal over this will allow the creep of American empire to control and occupy Europe more than it already does. This is a massive L for Europe and not just Greenland.
Finally. We finally get to hear the “we can’t do anything” reasons from the European liberals that those of us on the left have been critizing internally in America with American liberals. It’s amazing how similar these arguments for inaction are. “Follow the rules while they violate them” is not going to stop American fascism.
It’s funny because the European liberals really loved to grandstand on their superior democracy against America and the failures of American liberalism in the face of fascism. But, really, the European liberals have significantly more in common with American liberals than they’d like to admit. They will roll over and ask for “just one more Injunction” and ultimately do nothing to stop it either.
When a foreign actor is violating the territory of a member of the European Union and your response is essentially “not our problem”. You’re opening the door for the same creeping fascism that the American liberals have allowed.
Focus on what you CAN do. If you are just listing of reasons for why nothing can be done you are no different than the useless American democrat party.

Yeah, Detroits votes were definitely surprisingly low for him. But, that actually means he has a lot of support outside of Detroit because he still won. Which is good for the general election. Detroit isn’t gonna vote for a Republican anyway. But he still needs to make sure he addresses it and has good turnout from Detroit in the general.
I think it was a combination of conservatives voting for Stevens in the open primary (there was none for Republicans) and also the older voters of Detroit picking the establishment endorsed candidate. Basically, his disadvantage in the primary should flip to an advantage in the general when he’s the only one with a D next to his name on the ballot.

Democrats lose when turnout is low. They win easily if turnout is high, no matter what funding difference there is. But voters don’t turnout when they’ve only heard “stop the bad thing”. They are numb. They are use to bad things no matter what. They turnout when they hear people talking about a politician that actually wants good things. Medicare for all, childcare, etc.
Sure. That’s fine. But I think you still misunderstand exactly what is being solved in most of those cases. It’s not about quantity. If it was then all mathematicians would be spending time on filling “gaps”. Mathematicians aren’t focused on filling in gaps as a lot of the time that type of brute force work is not meaningful to the field of mathematics. They are focused on proving (or disproving) axioms that are foundational to the field. AI has not proven or disproven any mathematical axiom.
The biggest proof it’s ever provided was for “Erdos Problem”. Which is essentially just a fun “dot placement optimization problem” that Erdos came up with, was never taken too seriously, and was difficult enough that spending time on it in academics would likely get you laughed at.
It’s formal proof yields almost nothing to the field.
On top of that, it was “solved” by an AI math startup with closed source software. There is literally no confirmation that it was AI solving it organically or if the mathematicians themselves solved it during developing the AI and saw a means of getting headlines and more capital investment.
Please, be more skeptical. I double majored in Math and CS and have worked in the field for over a decade. There are applications for AI that are helpful. But, right now, people are falling for a lot of the hype and lies that are being pushed around to attract capital investment. You’re not an investor, you can be smarter and more skeptical than that.
In a decade we’re going to have a lot of reflection on this time and the lies being told about the usefulness of AI.
We live in a world where one of the most valued companies in the world pretends it’s AI robots are real and not just being remote operated by a human. You think AI startups aren’t giving credit to AI for the work of humans? They all are. Because it gets them investment.
A mostly fun and non helpful math problem gets solved by a human. The math community enjoys it. Laughs a little at the guy who spent too much of his life solving it. And no one outside the community hears about it.
But if you say “AI did it”. You get millions of dollars in investment.
I don’t have evidence a human solved it. But they also don’t have evidence AI solved it either. And all financial incentives right now are in saying “AI did it”. That is why you should be extremely skeptical of all these things you hear about the capability of AI.
