Ah yes, the classic “I have no rebuttal, therefore I will insult you” response.

And when confronted by this truth, those who choose the lesser evil devolve into insults, knowing their argument holds no moral weight, as evidenced by the other replies to you.
I think people are so bombarded with all the bad shit happening in the world and the constant stress of competing with everyone just to survive that they purposefully disengage and retreat into comfy bubbles of entertainment. So when reality eventually demands some sort of action, they rely on the media to tell them the easiest thing they can do to get back to the comfort zone as fast as possible.

We can only hope that Trump will visit a Chinese EV lot and realize the superiority of the Chinese-Communist economy and way of life.

51·7 days agoPrices are never going to go down. Never in the history of ever has a capitalist reduced their prices after a “crisis” causes an extended period of higher prices. What might happen is that they don’t keep increasing prices for a while to allow consumer purchasing power to rise (basically you have to start earning more money).

2·9 days agoThe problem with relying on the mass of society changing their consumption patterns is that the mass of society is too damn poor to even give a damn, let alone scrounge up the extra money it costs to buy the non-polluting version of the commodity they need.
We’ve been trying to implement bottom-up change for 50+ years, and pretty much the only people who have made any voluntary changes are middle-class yuppies.
On the other hand, top down legislation has had an exponentially larger impact on emissions.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What misconception are you tired of being spread?
2·9 days agoIt’s a nice “gotcha” you’re trying do. These companies emit because they are producing goods and services for us, the people, right?
No.
The point of blaming 10 companies for 70% of emissions, most of whom are fossil fuel energy companies, is that we have the technology and the resources to begin a 100% switch over to cleaner energy sources today. But these 10 companies make obscene profits and use those profits to control the political system and prevent that switchover.
We don’t have to use fossil fuels to maintain our society, but these companies use their influence to make sure we do it anyways.

11·9 days agoThe main problem with Nordic social democracy is that you still rely on economic imperialism and exploitation of the global south. As long as your socialism remains nationalist, it will not be socialism. That being said, of course you guys have a better track record on equality and democracy than purely capitalist nations like the US or Britain. I would much rather live in your country than mine.

It’s funny how libs always assume that moral objectors aren’t doing anything besides voting. Do you think we aren’t out organizing our communities so that eventually we will have the mechanism to destroy the train?
And how do you think that mechanism gets built if it doesn’t start with a refusal to get on the train in the first place?
And finally, if moral objectors are so impotent and meaningless, then why do you keep blaming us for your candidate’s loss?
