So I work with public utilities / co-ops (different from private utilities). One of the challenges I consistently see is the utilities are handed a bunch of regulations without the funding to adequately support them. This strikes me as similar. Lineman safety is a real concern. I suspect it could be mitigated, but those mitigations probably come with a cost. The easiest fix is to fund lineman safety measures in the bill.

You can tax all sorts of things that effectively eliminates that class. Capital gains, assets, income, etc. Choose a number and tax the shit out of anything above it. I don’t even think the government needs that much money - but I really don’t want that class to exist anymore. Let’s make it happen.

I live in the PNW, where there are several varieties of poisonous mushrooms, including death caps. Apparently people can safely forage for mushrooms - but it scares the crap out of me because of the exact scenario in this article.

I kinda feel bad for this lady. I mean, we don’t know why she’s kept such a terrible job (is it the benefits for a sick kiddo, or she’s trying but the economy is shit, or something else entirely). Not everyone has the luxury to up and quit a job.

If you don’t feel like your representatives are adequately representing you (God knows I don’t), this is a good time to find a primary candidate to support (monetarily or with your time) - or even file to run yourself. Every house representative is up for reelection in November.

There are moments in time when we need leaders to look well beyond party and politics - and we need them to recalibrate the system as a whole. Beyond the horrendous actions of our administration that need to be reigned by n and have consequences, we can’t even have the right kinds of discussions because of money in politics and elected officials that have been in role for too long (or are too old). I am looking for the candidate who can do help to hit the reset button - and it sure as shit isn’t my current representative. Does anyone know of there is anyone out there trying to get a new crop of Democrats into office?

Don’t forget, Vance and Miller were out there telling everyone ICE has total immunity. They’ve got to go too. Keep the pressure on your elected officials.

This move is probably one that makes me the most hopeful. Most leaders mask the shitshow they’ve inherited out of some sort of misguided effort to be polite or not drag their preticessor through the mud. Clearly articulating the mess opens the door for Mamdani to make more dramatic changes and probably more quickly (having established some urgency). I was on the fence about his actual ability to execute - but I’m excited I could be wrong.

Probably the immediate threat, but the long tail of consequences will go on for a while. Who would want to work with us when we have twice elected a guy like Trump? We are pretty unreliable partners at this point. 😕
