10·21 hours agoFair, I put a note in the headline, I can see how that might be a little bit of a jumpscare headline… one could argue it is the most jumpscare headline possible other than “ASTEROID INCOMING”.
Trump doesn’t like, you know, war.
What evidence do you have of this?
Trump doesn’t want imagery of people being blown up by IEDs
Actually, I think he does want that, it makes his job much easier once everybody is shocked by those images, then it becomes time to be patriotic and unify not ask questions.
Is that what will happen? I don’t know, but I am confident that is what Trump and Steven Miller think will happen.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump's Plan To Escort Ships Through Strait Of Hormuz Would Put U.S. Navy Warships In The CrosshairsEnglish
91·21 hours agoThere is nothing to stop this from escalating, I don’t think abrupt, nonsensical nuclear war is off the table for the US or Israel and I don’t think the centrists of the world are ready for that (which terrifyingly, is really one of the few “gotchas” Trump and Netanyahu have left to flip the script, all the other non-existent international norms people believed in are already destroyed, nuclear weapons are the only one left.).
We have never been closer to nuclear war in my lifetime and it is almost entirely the fault of the US and Israel.
Let me ask you a question, if every accusation is an admission, what is Trump loudly admitting he is about to do?
This conflict leads directly to the use of “tactical” nuclear weapons because this is the first bullshit war in a long time in US history where the existentiality necessity of using nuclear weapons can be invoked without the immediate fear of nuclear retaliation as a consequence, at least according to how the leadership of the US and Israel see it.
There are not many off ramps left here…
Iran could easily end up doing that if things keep escalating, but I think what the US and Israel do will be far more catastrophic for everybody.
No we would do the right thing and blame the religion that those people ostensibly used to justify their terrorism that about ~1 billion other people practice who don’t commit terrorism, become super Xenophobic about it and violate the privacy of countless Americans who practice that religion (or I guess could be mistaken for doing so by idiots?) and completely avoid thinking about what motivated the acts of terror or what the intentions of the attack were (which was to get us to do exactly what we did to a T).

World News@lemmy.world•Iran demands international action after attacks impact hospitals, schoolsEnglish
3·2 days agoWhat I would say is that they are trying to simplify the narratives so that things are as simple as Iranians are the kind of people who hide under schools and hospitals so we don’t have to reflect upon anything deeper about colonialism, jingoism and reflected ethnic conflicts being driven into a genocidal overdrive by cynical forces intent on nothing but destruction for profit and distractions for answers.
What matters is that children died who didn’t have to, and that this was a choice by US and Iraeli leaders.
There was easily a timeline where those children didn’t die, and I think it is a better one than this, both for Iranians and for jews and Israelis. I mean I don’t need to qualify it, that timeline is better for all of us, this war is bullshit and the US and Iran started it. That is just the reality of it, as frustrating and heartbreaking as it is.
I return to a central point that no matter what happens in Iran, this attack was undertaken with ZERO internal, domestic accountability and independent of how you feel about Iranian leaders and Iranian politics, supporting this without massive reservations risks normalizing an absolutely evil precedent. Further even if it is revealed at a later point that Democrats were totally onboard with how these strikes went down, that is if anything even more damning of US politics.
We must all say no, and it doesn’t really have to do with how evil or not evil the Iranian leadership was or is, it has to do with how we are all so obviously getting played for fools here. If nothing else, you should feel deeply condescended because you have been by this turn of geopolitical events no matter where you live on earth.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How long do you think it will be until Chrome/Google for all intents and purposes removes basic copy paste functionality on webpages?
15·2 days agoAre you comfortable actually pointing to those as realistic alternatives for most everybody?
I see endless rows of corporate silos and a couple of niche little hobbiest communities off to the side, I do not see an environment where corporations can’t do whatever the hell they want.
Don’t get me wrong, I hope I am wrong, but I don’t think I am.

52·2 days agoMore to the point, why would they?
Why wouldn’t they want more direct control over how content is shared online? They control essentially the only web browser and the internet is more centralized under a few corporations than it ever has been…
