Mm, I expect there are still some old rows from the previous database before the Upgrade-Gone-Wrong. Will take a look when I get a spare moment Sunday.

6·5 months agoIt is suspicious that the bot “found” cloudflare without it being mentioned…
Remind me in the morning, I’ll take it down for investigation.
Perhaps they were referring to the space in “PIRATE IT”, and how you’d start a sentence in that screed with a space.
Many thanks, added to the database.
Happy to take definitions and plug them into the database, if you have them to hand. If not, I’ll put aside a few minutes this weekend to look them up.

5·10 months agoI’m hosting the Decronym bot on a single-user instance, and it’s a real pain. The bot’s been down for weeks, actually, because an upgrade failed with some obscure error around the database schema…
I’ve ended up just today, wiping the whole thing and starting over, losing all data and having to refederate the bot. So yeah, I wouldn’t recommend.
[Acronyms to help the bot re-establish: LVM, HASS, k8s]

This is Theresa May, predecessor to the Cabbage Lady. (Crazy how many prime ministers we went through in those few years.)

4·1 year agoEach show is unique, from what I see in the comments. I feel like he’s not doing the traditional ‘write a set’ thing, but he works backwards from an idea (“America feels like a Dollar General nowadays”, for example) and has the ability to conjure an hour of almost shaggy-dog-story material on the spot leading you to that endpoint.
Rare talent.

4·1 year agoSo this came up with this user a few days ago, and apparently ð fell out of use later in Old English and its usage was merged into þ for hundreds of years.
I remain unconvinced.

2·1 year agoThe argument has been made that, even if another intelligence arises in 100 million years, there are multiple problems for them: the Sun will be burning hotter by then, easily accessible raw material will all have been used up (Cyprus is no longer covered in surface-level raw copper, for example), we’ll probably irradiate the surface on our way out, etc.
I’ve actually written exactly that before, when I needed to check the lowest bit in an SQL dialect with no bitwise operators. It was disgusting and awesome.

Neither, it’s literally Brazilian beef that’s affected (though the import ban is by the EU, so both ends of the comment were somewhat incorrect).
