By clinging to American primacy through force and intimidation, Donald Trump is, ironically, undermining US global power. A saboteur trying to subvert US interests from the inside could hardly do better than what he’s accomplished through sheer incompetence.

    Oh wow look jacokbin doing great man theory.

    Sure it looks like its all falling down on trumps watch but his real mistake was to take the job of captain of the Titanic hours after the iceberg hit. Maybe someone else could have done a bit better but nobody who could would be stupid enough to try.

    trump’s trade war might have even worked but biden gave China and BRICKS time to prepare. If biden’s sanctions on Russia weren’t proven to be a damp squib and his destruction of the european economy hadn’t happened its quite possible that China and its trade partners wouldn’t have been so confident to resist us economic pressure.

    Everyone who participates in a game of Jenga is responsible when the tower falls down. trump is just taking his turn and it was guaranteed to make the tower less stable because that is how the game works.

      I don’t think so. The AI he uses must have been fed exclusively MAGA sources, but given the sheer incompetence of MAGA people, it’s unlikely.

    He is definitely speeding up the inevitable collapse of the U.S. Empire. That is also just the simple fact that the capitalists are running out of ways to sustain their growth so more social spending cuts, stoking foreign conflict, and satiating public demand for a scapegoat is in order.

    The thing is though, all of those things will simultaneously increase distrust and alienation when the problems don’t go away.
