Yeah, nothing worth while to read on any of the .gov websites after the nazi’s took it over and scrubbed all the real information from them.

This country is doomed and republicans have completely abandoned all their previous convictions to appease a pedophile that hates them and thinks they are stupid. I mean they are stupid, but still really odd they all fell for fascism so quickly.

Thanks man, I was actually under the impression that it was a lab leak until these idiots started claiming it. I just operate under the pretense that literally everything from the right is wrong.

Serves to remind us of our shared humanity.

Pre-2020 my social circle consisted almost entirely of libertarians and small-government republicans. After Gulf War II (“they have WMD!”), then Snowden (“we’re not spying on you!”), we came to take it as a given that the government always lies. After all, did you not see the lying to Congress about mass surveillance?

Those same people – many of whom self-identified as “skeptics” – were easy prey for Russian bots

All they had to be told was that the government was lying to them about COVID. It matched the pattern of everything else. 95% of them disappeared into disinfo bubbles and became ring-wraith Trump-enablers. Perhaps 5% kept our eye on objective scientific sources and realized in this case actually the government isn’t lying

People are never gonna prove the origin of covid and these nuts can’t accept it. Disease litterally can come from nature. Apparently it happened with aids, it can happen with covid.

They’re unable to comprehend the fact that things just happen and the world is chaotic. They need there to be nefarious forces at work or else they can’t cope. It’s almost sad if it wasn’t destroying lives and probably also the world

also if it’s nefarious lab driven, trump’s bungling wasn’t his fault. they need to excuse a million dead from his fuckery.

          Indeed. We’re all bad.

This worked great after world War 1. Certain German people used that shame for only good, right?

History repeats itself… Humans never learn. Idiots create idiots who empower hateful idiots. I really fucking hate this species sometimes.

It’s been a hard existence here, but it’s posts like this that make me realize nobody cares about any of the people fighting here.

Thank you for that. We’re all bad, right? Fuck us all. Burn our entire country down, with all of us in it. Because we don’t matter, I suppose.

The fascists in charge are cruel, sure… But it’s the fascists like you that aren’t in this country that really drive things home.

Wow, it’s so glitzy, so show-biz, so one-sided, so amorphous in structure. They’ve got the Pooper-in-Chief’s picture up there, in case we forgot who was president from November 2020 to January 2021, when the US had a vaccine but no one could get an injection.

You’d think even a serious conspiracy believer would become suspicious, disillusioned. But I guess that doesn’t happen. Belief in the conspiracy is about feelings of powerlessness and a desire for control, not facts and evidence.

It’s a very weird team sport thing. You tend to see a lot of incredibly lucid and detailed conversation in academia about it, but lab leak and natural origin split into a political argument for the majority of people who have it.

But interestingly, a lot of governments accept the lab leak theory, maybe because the project of finding and testing wild viruses for potential pandemic response was an internationally funded project that all governments either quietly or loudly (in the case of the US) stopped funding immediately once a pandemic happened. Kinda understandably, fat lot of good that did.

No one wants the smoke if it was a lab leak, if it was a purely natural thing at this wet market, well that can happen at any wet market anywhere in the world, there is no culpability there.

What we do know is that we’ll likely never know the true origin of the virus, because the place it happened didn’t cooperate with finding the source of it. And if they have more evidence than the same samples and maps everyone else has, they aren’t telling.

    insanity

If it’s insane to think that it could have come from a lab in the area, that lied about performing gain-of-function research, that has had a history of leaks in the past, that was studying the exact type of bacteria that evolved into COVID-19, that hid their data and records when asked to see them by the global health community, that (if found to be true) would put the blame for the pandemic on one of the biggest totalitarian governments with a long history of avoiding blame; well then call me crazy.

I don’t think we’ll ever know for sure, but to act like the whole thing is just some crazy conspiracy that could never be true just stinks of willful ignorance.

Yeah, and the Spanish flu, and the bubonic plague, and rsv, and avian flu…

I’m not voting you down nor up, I’m not going to call you crazy or tell you to put on a tinfoil hat. I agree that there are nasty things being created in labs.

But if something was released why would they release it in their own country, if that lab was working on designing something deadly why would it have such a low mortality rate?

Virus’s have always been passively trying to kill us, isn’t the simpler explanation that a decade virus came along and we reacted more to it than we have in the past because our detection sensitivity is much higher?

I don’t think you’re crazy, but I hope you’ve considered the simpler explanation.

There’s a difference between an intentional and unintentional lab leak. Asking why they would release it in their own country doesn’t really change things if it was a fuckup they’re trying to hide.

Here’s a reminder that the Spanish flu didn’t even start in Spain. Spain was simply the first country to stop hiding their death numbers, so every other country blamed them for it when they started posting news about the deaths.
