I used to be similar to your ex, and stuff like in this post is why I wore a t-shirt to the pool until I was like 20. Not saying I had it as bad as a fat person, but body shaming the other end of the spectrum ain’t it either.

I’m noticing a pattern on Lemmy for every time someone makes a general criticism of the EU, the West ™, Europe etc there’s someone in the comments specifically mentioning how Germany is good, actually, regardless of whether Germany was explicitly mentioned or whether it’s actually true that Germany is better than other places in the topic at hand. In all likelihood it’s just that there’s more Germans on Lemmy than people from smaller countries, but it’s starting to feel like some weird out of place patriotism is on the rise or something.
All of this makes it more confusing, not less
Usually when an unpleasant, inconvenient, non-optional ‘feature’ like this comes out, it’s at least obvious how that’d generate the culprit company more profits. But with this one, Im genuinely befuddled as to how it benefits YouTube shareholders. Anyone have a guess?
I used to be in a relationship where my partner pressured me out of making my body look exactly how I wanted it to look. Didn’t end well for my mental health.
Greedily taking up an obscene excess of resources and producing crazy amount of emissions and pollution makes the planet less livable for the rest of us. Yachts do those things.
I mean, the context tells you that the latter two are places where you can get food, that’s about all that’s relevant
Yeah. I think it must be partially covered, otherwise Id expect a higher price. Wifi is extra though (unless you have eduroam hehe)
Genuine question, is this hard to understand as an American? I’m a non native English speaker who’s met British people before and there’s, like, 2 references in there I didn’t catch, but otherwise, you can figure, no?
Fun fact, the stay itself isn’t entirely covered in my country. Being in the hospital costs like 20€/night (regardless of what procedures and tests they do, those are fully covered).
That is very interesting and makes sense. And I feel honoured, lol. I’m a pretty genderless human, so I like that but.
Super interesting, cause for me it’s the opposite! If I try to read it out loud mentally, my mind is (I guess) understimulated and starts to wander, causing me to have to reread it.
Side question: if you give text a voice, what kind of a voice are you giving my comments here? Not just asking you specifically, but anyone who wants to answer!
Thanks for the pointer, I’ll read the wiki!
Hm so it isn’t like reading it out loud, except in your head, after all?
Interesting, everyone I’ve told this to said that is indeed how they read!
Does reading something quietly take as long as reading something out loud for you? It’s hard to imagine!
The way I explain it is: when you read, you don’t read the words aloud in your head. You look at them and register their meaning. My thoughts are just those meanings. Usually in larger chunks than single words though. They don’t have a language. I can ‘picture’ sounds I’ve heard before though, like getting a song stuck in my head. That one’s more difficult with pictures.
That first one isn’t just American christian zionism, it’s the literal reason modern day Israel was created.
That’d also harm big corporations less than small, independent artists who don’t get paid as much per use of their artwork.
Under capitalism, copyrights are a necessary tool for people to get paid for their labour in some cases. That’s not the most common usecase for copyrights, but a needed one until we get a better system. Fuck copyrights being used for corporate greed though. Somehow, more people are against the former than the latter, which is super wrong. But it’s not a reason to be against the former in addition to being against the latter.
I think I was being unclear! I was trying to agree with you that banning ads with thin people is shitty, because when I was growing up, that was a huge thing, with ‘real men like curves’ and generally all the media being all about how gross it is to be skinny. And so I felt compelled to hide my underweight body. ‘protruding collar bones’ like in the article is pretty much a direct quote from quite a few of my bullies. It’s important to fight fat phobia, but this really ain’t it.
