  • Yep. You need to present them a better alternative that will fix the real (or imaginary) problems in their lives, most of which are truly caused by rampant capitalism.

So you need specific, concrete strategies about how you’re going to get them better wages, better education, better infrastructure, better healthcare, etc.

Because if you don’t offer this, the fascists will. The fascists say all the problems are due to Outgroup and the solution is to give unlimited power to Ingroup so they can get rid of Outgroup and then all the problems will be solved.

That is, obviously, very stupid. But so are a lot of voters. And it that’s the only solution to their problems that they’re hearing, that’s what they’re going to gravitate toward. To win them over, you need to acknowledge their problems, paint a convincing picture that capitalist oligarchs are the source of those problems, and present clear and concrete steps toward solving those problems. You are NOT going to win them over by telling them that their problems aren’t real, or that their problems aren’t as bad as other people’s problems.

  • We need new solutions to adapt to this reality.

Problem should solve itself once investor capital is no longer flooding into these AI companies and subsidizing the cost of generating that text.

Once these spammers have to pay the full cost to generate their LLM-generated spam, it will no longer be financially viable for them to do so for so little return. They’re only doing it now because it’s free or next to free. Having to pay what it actually costs will slow the pervasive AI slop to nearly nothing.

  • What about the extremely demotivated?

    A) To do the right thing, you report for Senate duty as required, but then request that your mentor Senator put it up for a vote to excuse you from service, along with an explanation/sob story of why you really don’t want to be a Senator. If 66% of other Senators agree that you shouldn’t be forced to, then you don’t have to.

    or,

    B) Just ignore it and potentially face legal consequences like steep fines or judgements requiring community service hours.

But … yeah. The people who don’t want to be in government are the exact sort who should be in government, so it shouldn’t be an easy thing to get out of.

(Also … serving in the Senate doesn’t necessarily have to be that onerous. The Senate can vote to set their own hours and meeting times, after all, and can always vote to take a recess whenever they want. Perhaps most of it could be done remotely, better allowing you to continue your life/career outside of it.)

  • 1: Gather a group of people. (I’ve got a few, need a lot more.)

2: Come up with a list of demands those people can mostly agree on. (I’ve got ideas, of course, but so does everybody. It’s not my place to unilaterally decide what the strike’s demands will be.)

3: Mutual aid networks to assist people who get fired from their jobs (or worse) in retaliation for participating in the strike. Build emergency caches of food, household essentials, arms, and medical supplies. Organize temporary shelter plans for anyone made homeless by participating in the strike. (I’ve got plenty of food to share if necessary, and I have a camper trailer in my back yard someone can stay in if necessary. And I’ve got a bunch of old lumber and building supplies I could slap together into some additional makeshift huts if really necessary – they wouldn’t have indoor plumbing, but they’d at least have a roof, walls, and heat. I could support 2 or 3 people easily. Maybe 5 to 10 in a pinch.)

4: Announce the strike. Begin withholding labor and minimizing all economic participation until the demands from Step 2 are met. (Not only refuse to sell your labor, but also refuse to buy anything, as much as possible. Also, for good measure, withdraw all your money from the bank so they can’t collect interest on it.) (This does not mean that participants will ‘do no work’ and just sit around all day. You still have work – supporting the strike. Work in a food kitchen to support those going hungry because they’re on strike. Deliver food and supplies to strikers who can’t make it to that kitchen. Build temporary shelters for strikers who need them. Provide security against the inevitable strike-busting violence. Etc.)
