And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

  • Maybe the issues is they do believe in the bible and christianity? This is the religion that wiped out any others that were not aligned with it’s specific message and goals. It absorbed it’s morals, rituals and holidays from the others it destroyed. I mean, there was a fucking inquisition! Crusades. How many have been murdered by not following the ‘law of god’ or not being in the ‘right’ religion? Is it really morally right to treat and trade women like possessions or farm animals? To kill the firstborn of everyone who disagrees? ‘Oh, we dont follow that part anymore, we cherry pick what we want to use and believe in.’

It does not take religion to have morals. Being religious doctrine, does not make a thing moral.

  • Some of do wish we were tall. Not all of us care what a potential mate finds “cute”. We want to be able to be safe wearing seatbelts instead of higher chances of decapitation. We want to be responded to like adults, especially in our 40’s, instead of treated like children. We want to be independent while working on and around our homes without fear of falling of stools and ladders to put dishes away or calling a man for help. Being told a job your interested in wouldn’t be a good fit, because of your size…

I even have pairs of “shit stompers”, as my friends call them, platform boots that give me about 2 1/2 inches more height so I can be self-reliant. Sold as “clubbing boots” but I wear them regularly for mundane shit.

Getting literally looked down on, by everyone, everyday, gets really tiring, especially after decades of it. I am 5"3 (so not even THAT short) and can’t see shit in large crowds besides asses and backs. Have been actually stepped on by tall folks (even people just at 5’6"… like, come the fuck on) who don’t realize there are people shorter than their eyes and don’t care to look down. My head gets hit by average and tall people’s elbows (hard) in club or crowd environments because again, they have no idea someone can exist below their eyeline, or just don’t care. Can’t go to bars or clubs alone because we are easy “marks” so we need an adult or a man to accompany us, to dissuade sexual preditors.

Anyone remember vehicles with bench seats? How degrading is it to not be able to reach the pedals because the seat only has 3 notches, and the closest one is still for people taller than you? Getting told “you should get yourself a booster seat” like I’m a kid in a restaurant.

Not every girl wants to be “cute”. Some of just want to “be”, and be safe. Self defense classes really drilled into my head the dangers of “looking like an easy mark” it’s assumed short women won’t put up as much of a fight and are easier prey. Learned to carry a “big” presence, and found a lot less sketchy characters would try to approach me. Staying that alert is fucking exhausting and makes going out, at night, in cities, to large parking lots, to bars and clubs, to concerts, a lot less enjoyable.

Sorry for the rant. But just because some folks might see short as cute, does NOT mean we short folks concur, or see that “cute” makes up for the rest of the shit and dangers we have to deal with. Or, even want to be “cute”.

  • With her particular specialty and the attacks on education, I would put her in the grouping of likely to be targeted. Once that happens, it is probably too late to leave.

As far as going to protests, I’ve seen those pics too and they are truly inspiring to see! I have imagined that all have a support system, though I could be wrong. I’m currently unable to stand or walk for long periods and hoping I am able to fully recover. Until then, Im in a state we moved to as adults, haven’t made any real local friends, don’t have kids or other family in the area, work different hours in a different city than my S.O. We are also in a red county in a red state that posts in our neighborhood sites freely, about being violent to any non-magas. I.e., running into the protesters with lifted trucks, doing drive-bys of their 2a rights, and get cheered on from the others on there. I had to go far from home to one of our big cities to attempt to protest for a little bit just so I could feel safer with a crowd. Luckily I am still able to drive or even that wouldn’t have been possible.

She is speaking up and bringing her expertise to those who can put the information to more strategic use. I will take all the help we can get.

  • It’s in Tempe, which is a college town and usually a lot more “variety of ideas friendly” area. It’s a big ass state, not gone down the rabbit hole of how gerrymandered we might be, but I’m listed in a town by address that is nowhere near where my “local” library, grocery, etc which is another town.

There is a lot of wild west expanse and geriatric retirement that keeps a red hold, Tempe isn’t far from Phoenix downtown where I went to a fucking awesome Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, The Linda Linda’s concert last week. I was quite impressed at the the number of both old and young punks that showed up and packed the place! Openly anti trump remarks through the show… not too many left early even, despite the traffic… hmmm…

And, this shit was done overnight, who the hell did they think they might get, janitorial staff? Random underpaid security guard? What fucking dickbags man. Random violence is bad, putting people just doing their jobs, regardless of political affiliation, is just really poor form.

I saw the negativity points to your remark, which should generally be “well yeah… it’s the wild red west?!” Thought some of this may shed a light on that response?

(And, wanted to squeeze in that my old ass stayed up for a whole Green Day show, on a school night!)

Edit: btw, I live in bfe, no way in hell am I putting on a bumper sticker or a sign in my yard. Out of town, there’s lots of crazies with guns. Edit, edit: fixed a, guess half of a sentence got typed… elsewhere?

  • I lived there for almost a decade, about a decade and a half ago. It was so run down and dying then. People wouldn’t come see us there that we had known all our lives because it was so dangerous. Pizza places wouldn’t deliver down our street, we would have to walk to the main corner to get delivery. We paid a crack head to watch our house while we were away for a weekend.

I was in disbelief back when I heard about the factories deciding to build there after we had up and left… finally, after barely scraping enough together from living and working there. I wondered how they would fare but didn’t follow up on it then.

I researched and verified everything you said above, and informed some other family on Fb, that was trying to stir the shit. They would hear none of it.

  • This is really awesome! I saw your post the other day about it and thought it was a great idea. You work quick! I already found a new community I would not have thought to look for otherwise.

It is hard for me to see and manipulate on mobile, but that’s totally on me. So I’ll be back in a bit. I’m sure someone smarter than me may have more helpful input than that if you are looking for feedback!

So I thought I was gonna head to bed, but… guess I can stay up and peruse for a little while…

    Thank you!!

  • I’m thinking, if you got to have fun, minding your own business… not hurting anyone; No matter how much you may have grown or changed and no longer like or approve of doing those activities, you don’t get to be part of a brigade that strips the rights from people who DO choose to and again, aren’t hurting anyone. You don’t get to incite violence against people who are Minding Their Own Fucking Business without the bare minimum of getting exposed for being a fucking hypocritical piece of shit.
