That at least Windows need to be by default debloated and customized to the root to be an reasonable private OS, is nothing new. It is possible but pretty difficult throug advanced settings, editing of the registry (risky) and diving through infinite menus. This is the reason why there are a lot apps which can do it in the safe way, like this one or others like the Hellzerg Optimizer, Shut-up10, etc… Windows currently is an safe and stable OS, but with big issues in privacy, full of telemetries and bloatware. This in Linux naturally isn’t a big problem and the few things are easy to fix-
If you open the page, you can also see and even edit the corresponding script in the window, there is nothing hidden. It’s way more as only clearing trash, but naturally in Linux there isn’t a lot of settings needed, like in Windows or Mac. Made in the UK, FOSS
Murena Mail (Workspace, with several apps, similar to Google Docs, but better) is also a good choice. Murena products rely on open-source software, including the deGoogled operating system /e/OS and NextCloud, partner companies, among others, Fairphone. EU
Better so, but it’s not the only privacy hole used by Zuckerbot.
Use Filen, it’s a German cloudprovider, encrypted, zero knowledge and 10 GB for free.

If you get hacked as an user, it don’t cause more than that you invent a lot of new NSFW words and the lost of some documents and selfie photos, but in a company this isn’t aczeptable, because the result is seen here.
All Proton apps and services are OpenSource.
This article is somewhat biased, yes, they handled out an IP of an to the authorities, this is mandatory for every service in a criminal investigation if there is an court order present, they must give the data which they have about the user, even Lemmy must do it if there is an court order about an user. Any service in the web must fullfit the laws of the country in which it’s operating. This has nothing to do with privacy or trust about the service, also not if it is OpenSource or Proprietary. A service also can’t avoid that it is used by republicans in the US, or that one of the employees is a right winger. The CEO of the Brave Browser (FOSS) as example. Can Lemmy avoid that an Nazi use it in a own instance?
Swiss have one of the strongest privacy laws and Proton is pretty save to use.
The problem is, even if you don’t have an account in Fakebook, it is enogh if an family member or a friend has one, because FB has access to their mail and telephone lists where you appears. Apart of this there are a lot of webservices which share data with Facebook, like some hosts, cloudservices, imgur and a lot of others, perfect to profile everyone.

A weak employee password led to the collapse of KNP, a 158-year-old British transport company, after hackers from the Akira ransomware group gained access to their systems in 2023[1]. The attackers encrypted the company’s data and left a ransom note stating “If you’re reading this, it means the internal infrastructure of your company is fully or partially dead”[2].
Unable to pay the estimated £5 million ransom demand, KNP lost all its financial records and operational data[1:1]. Despite having cybersecurity insurance and industry-standard IT protections, the company went into administration three months after the attack, resulting in 730 job losses[3].
“We need organisations to take steps to secure their systems, to secure their businesses,” said Richard Horne, CEO of the National Cyber Security Centre[1:2]. The hackers gained entry through a “brute force” attack by guessing one employee’s password - a person who was never told they were the weak link that led to the company’s demise[4].
Fingerprints are harder to draw as a hand, maybe a hand with raised middlefinger.

But normally this issue you have is due to some extension, browsersetting or security soft. In Vivaldi I checked it in a guest profile, this putt the browser to the default settings and without extensions. I think in Firefox there will be a similar methode to check it, otherwise desactive the extensions one by one and clear the cache.

Certainly it isn’t easy to debloat Windows, but possible to have the OS as is. For all default features Windows has, there are excelent, even better FOSS alternatives, updates can be limited to neede security updates, using Portmaster you can monitor and, if needed, blocking the traffic of every app and those from Windows itself. Windows is the most used OS and because of this well known by a lot of FOSS devs and communities, which made that Windows not only has the biggest catalogue of FOSS apps of all OS, but also a lot of those to gut, mod it and to show the middlefinger to the M$ spyware and telemetries, releasing even de-microsofted forks, like Windows X, React OS and probably others.
