Thank you for taking the time to write this:). I preordered the latest Jolla Phone, even though I understand Graphene offers more privacy/security. I’m mostly FOSS, except for some banking apps.

Games@lemmy.world•FF7 on Steam Is Being Replaced (And Your Saves Won’t Carry Over)English
4·6 days agoI m 100% biased, as am a massive fan. So I’ll share my SO’s perspective. She played it a few years back for the first time, wondering what all the fuss was about, and she absolutely loved it. The graphics rapidly disappeared for her and let place to the adventure. The Remake and Rebirth are good, too. Though they slightly modified the story. (Remake ≠ Remaster). The mod graphic boosts are a big plus. I’m unsure of what is available nowadays. Haven’t played it in 5years, or so. If you ever get to play it, or decide too, please don’t read anything about it, story wise. Spoilers everywhere, especially for an old masterpiece like this one.

I do not know what alternatives were available for the learning phase. Simply stating the cost it came at. And that’s not even taking into consideration what its doing to the job market, youth, disinformation, etc.
I prefer a world without it.

5·23 days agoI see this as a weird “creative destruction” moment. Since we are in the eye of the cyclone, surrounded by entropy, we feel at a loss. But the hurricane is creating new landscape. And once the dust settles, new alliances and alternatives will have emerged.
If we look at it from a unified landmass perspective, it might look like Asia/Europe teaming up VS crazy island. Even if that means compromises we aren’t too happy about. The alternative is being bullied by a never ending cycle of “renegotiations” and threats. Stability, even traded at a loss, offers some peace of mind. You know what you get at any given moment. And rules actually mean something.
I’m not rooting for unfavorable deals, nor compromising on ethics and sovereignty. Just saying that I prefer knowing I get a beating every Friday, rather than the random 1-3 a week. But then, I was never a gambler.
As a sidenote: I wish Europe shifts heavily to opensource and finances it with a portion of the software savings. We could become opensource champions.:)
Started on windows, like so many of us. Grew up with my father yelling at 3.1. Kept going with Microslop, until last year, when I switched to Mint. Just wanted to escape the insanity. I never really enjoyed Mint, and about 8days ago I installed Bazzite. There are no words to describe how happy I am with that distro. Its everything I wanted and more. Its fucking fast, everything works. I thought it was only going to be the case for basic things and gaming… But its fantastic across the board! Work, gaming, chilling, whatever floats your boat. I’ve been simping and talking so much about it, that my wife might start taping my mouth shut.
I installed it like and hour ago (prior to seeing your message), will try it out soon. Never gave a proper run to Gimp. Insalled on Bazzite, had a downloadable extension section with it and all. I frigging love Bazzite. Thanks for the reminder: D

Linux@lemmy.ml•Bazzite has seen a massive jolt in growth over the holiday season, surpassing 50k active users. The Fedora Atomic image has gained 38.8k users total in 2025 since it began counting in April 🥳
2·1 month agoInstalled it Friday for the first time. Its ridiculously fast. I had everything up in running in less than an hour. It just flies, I m in awe. Only issue I’m having is “trouble” setting up pass-through for the sound system. Currently stuck in stereo. Only spent a few min to tweak things before leaving, though.
Edit: Turns out it had nothing to do with Bazzite. My wife had unplugged the rear speakers , and i had unplugged the subwoofer when plugging new PC. No wonder 5.1 wasnt working…
I’m running my containers in Podman Desktop (Bazzite plasma). It’s daemonless (no root). Ollama + open webui + searxng. Upon ollama container creation I had to specify using (amd) gpu. Podman is awesome, highly recommend!
