About the same time that sea animals were first evolving bones. The carbon that became the coal under them was deposited approximately 300 million years ago when they formed the central continental divide of the Pangea supercontinent. That was when they were at their highest, estimated to have been about the same height as the modern Alps.

They couldn’t be culpable for their transgression because they didn’t have knowledge of good and evil prior to eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Without that knowledge they were incapable of making an ethical decision. The Garden of Eden, like many of the stories in the old testament isn’t a story of the failure of man, it’s a story of the failure of God.

No legislation needed and the courts can’t stop it. Alright, we divide the population of New York City into ten parts. The first part stays in the city to keep New York state. The other nine parts each move to the nine least populated states. We might have to put together some sub plans for the nine states so that we can pick up house seats along with the Senate seats.

That’s not going to be a problem for America in the future right? I mean it’s not like America’s technological advancements since WW2 were frequently dependant on its ability to recruit foreign scientists or anything right?

Prisoners in the US have a right to be protected from physical and sexual violence, to medical care, they have limited first amendment rights and a right to communicate with their families in most circumstances. Prison overcrowding has been ruled to violate prisoners 8th amendment rights multiple times.

Weaken the dollar until we experience rapid severe devaluation. When the Big Mac hits $1,000 paying off existing loans will be easy for the people lucky enough to still be able to find a job.

It’s gone to SCOTUS multiple times and been upheld and strengthened each time. Not saying that there’s no way this particular SCOTUS would overturn those rulings but it would be a huge deal and seriously negatively affect not individuals but a bunch of major corporations so that at least would probably give them some pause.
can_you_change_your_username@fedia.ioto politics @lemmy.world•Donald Trump's approval rating collapses with Gen Z11·28 days agoThere’s also a degree to which conservative media and conservative culture teach their people to act like they are more inline with the mainstream. There’s old stuff that’s been going on forever like using coded language so they talk about an “urban problem” instead of openly saying that black people are the problem or they’ll talk about “New York people” instead of openly saying that Jewish people are the problem. If you haven’t been exposed to that then some of what they’re saying can sound somewhat reasonable.
Then there is the “respect” thing. Conservative parents are big about emphasizing how you say something over what you say. So they’re fine with saying that disabled people should just die as long as it’s not phrased that way. It should sound more like “It’s sad that some people are sick but there are only so many resources and we need to put them where they’re most productive. Hopefully their family can take care of them.” It’s more etiquette than real respect but they make a big deal out of it.

No uninvited foreign troops have set foot in the contiguous US since the Mexican American War ended in 1848. There hasn’t been a military battle in the contiguous US since Wounded Knee in 1890, inasmuch as Wounded Knee was a battle. Part of the privileges that Americans enjoy is that that level of conflict happens elsewhere. Large displays of military power at home deminish us.

Meet the leaders positioning themselves to make moves.7·9 months agobut the more time she spends chasing Senate seats and climbing the political ladder, the more dulled that “political outsider” edge gets.
I think it’s possible to serve in Congress and still be considered a political outsider. It’s not easy, the secret seems to be a strong commitment to principles outside of the mainstream but at least a couple of people have done it.
Bernie has been in the legislative branch since 91 and was in state government for a decade before that. Being a political outsider is still part of his appeal. On the other end of the spectrum Ron Paul was first elected to the House in 76 and retired from politics in 2013 without ever having become a political insider.

They embrace what they like and what reinforces their beliefs while ignoring things that they find inconvenient. Primarily they ignore that very little was universally agreed upon by our framers and that the Constitution is the result of significant compromise. When someone says, “The framers believed…” they are almost always wrong and actually only framing what they believe in a way that they think gives it more credibility.

They are typically small forum events held in places like town halls or school gyms and involve the politician giving a short speech typically limited to a single issue or current event followed by a longer period where the audience asks the politician questions. It’s not limited to campaigning, legislators often hold these events outside of elections. Theoretically they give the politician the opportunity to hear issues and concerns that their constituents most care about but mostly they are used to drum up support for legislation that the politician already supports.
