It’d be coated, but it’s from processing, cold rolling metal generates a lot of heat, especially going that thin (thinnest I was around often was ~0.2mm), we’d often temper the material after processing, mainly for surface finish, mill rolls would be sprayed with lubricating coolant really close to what you’d see in use on a milling machine. This was with steel but same principle applies, pretty sure the lubricant we used is also labeled for use on aluminum mills, but you’d use food safe stuff for kitchen foil.

Industrial cooling towers are usually evaporative in my experience, smaller ones are large fans moving air over a stack of slats that the return water is sprayed or piped over and the collects in well for recirculation, larger ones afaik (like what you’d see at power plants) operate the same idea. Top ups and water chemistry is all automated.

Those systems have operation wide cooling loops that individual pieces of equipment tap into, some stuff uses it directly (see that with things like industrial furnaces) but smaller stuff or stuff that’s sensitive you’ll see heat exchangers and even then the server & PLC rooms were all air cooled, the air cons for them were all tied into the cooling water loops though.

From a maintenance POV though, way easier to air cool, totally seen motor drive racks with failed cooling fans that have had really powerful external blowers rigged up to keep them going to the next maintenance window. Yeah, industrial POV but similar idea.

I’ve used the wired equivalent of the Logitech g502 for a while, and my partner has the wireless one, I liked them as well. I’ve used Logitech, steel series, Razer and Saitek mice over the years, started with a Logitech G7, and there’s a reason I went back to Logitech mice after using some of the others. Imo you can’t really go wrong with one of their midrange models with a decent sensor, won’t break the bank and found them fairly reliable.

As a bit of an alternate, I know you prefer wireless, but I’ve been using a Ploopy Mouse for few months now. I don’t do online fps stuff anymore, but was great for FPSs (some boomer shooters mainly) and RPGs it’s solid, been playing a lot of Diablo 2 recently and it’s great. It runs qmk so it’s customisable however you want, sensor seems decent and the entire thing is open source, designed for user serviceability.

It’s apparently the only thing named for that dude pronounced that way too, Dalhousie University as an example. Wiki page has an etymology section that has some suggestions as to why, it’d sound weird to me though pronounced the other way.

Largely yeah, not every pipeline is pigable (but even a decade ago when I was in the industry that was being worked on, saw lots of different ideas), but if you can an ILI tool can give you an absolute tonne of data.

Afaik, almost every browser uses “Mozilla/5.0” as part of the user agent, Mozilla mentions it as well in developer docs about User agents, it’s a historical compatibility thing apparently.

So, I like loose leaf when I can, but will totally use bags, I grew up with Tetley so that’ll always be the tea I’ll use for some basic iced tea. Yorkshire gold reminds me a lot of Red Rose, which is the other really common bag tea (and I swear is what my grandmother uses for her water intake). Recently, have some bags from Genuine Tea, it’s a Canadian brand and some of their blends are pretty good, there’s an elderberry hibiscus one that’s great to just toss a few bags in a pitcher and cold steep.

Going to mention more types of teas rather than brands that I’ve liked in the past, there’s a lot of variety and tea (like quality coffee) can totally have a wide range of flavours depending on region, age, processing etc. By no means an expert, I just like trying things.

I like Lapsang Souchong sometimes, can have a strong smoky flavour, don’t have any more but we had some first flush Darjeeling tea that was fantastic. I had some nice white tea as well, but you need to be careful, turns super unpleasant if you over steep it or have the water too hot, should be floral and lightly fruity, not pine needles.

Otherwise, I personally like oolong and pu’erh tea the best. I tend to brew tea quick with an excess of leaves, but you’ll use the same tea leaves multiple times. Pu’erh can have some earthy subtle flavours, and apparently totally changes as it ages (it’s fermented if I recall).

I bought a Brother colour laser last year (which on the outside looks identical to the monochrome one I bought 17 years ago that lives with my parents), zero issues, which pretty much has been my experience with printers on linux (also tried a ~5 y/o & 25 y/o HP LaserJet, one being the cheapest thing I’ve ever used, other being old office equipment, think I tried the Epson ecotank and photo printer my mil has as well)

From the 360 Era — Too Human
The control scheme is bizarre at first (right stick is melee) but it works once you’re used to it. It’s Sci-Fi Norse mythology, I recall it having a pretty solid art style. I picked it up used from either Blockbuster or EB because I wanted to see just how bad it was, ended up enjoying it far more than I expected, I’ll give it a “Yeah, it’s ok”, disc images are readily available if you want to emulate it, can find a physical copy cheap online too if that’s your thing.

This is the game that ended up taking down its studio (Silicon Knights, they developed Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, they tried to sue Epic, who countersued and won, probably added to my initial interested tbh.

It’s not terrible advice tbh, even just hand sketches are solid for getting ideas down, makes it easy to translate to cad. It at least helps me think things through and the like.

Get a few pencils with different leads (some harder stuff like 2-4H and an HB) and some nice paper and you’re good, but really anything works, totally have a mockup of my garage on a whiteboard planning where I want to put stuff.

As for cad packages, freecad, as far as I’m aware there are some architecture workbench plugins, and there’s a tech drawing workbench. Coming back to cad after a while I found it super easy to pick back up (coming from solidworks at least)

My partner and I were concerned about that originally but it’s really a non issue for either of us, it’s still way better than not having one.

Synapse link is a pain too if you’re doing everything with as much private networking as possible. Actual setup is quick, but you need a windows machine for the PowerShell libraries needed for the dynamics side of the link, and if you’re just added as a guest to a client tenant, the cmdlets won’t let you login on their tenant, always uses the default tenant as far as I recall and there’s no tenant flag. I’ve set it up a handful of times and once it’s up it works really well, just an annoyance sometimes getting there. Think doing it through event hub has some similar irritations too.

I’ve not had the pain of dealing with fabric extensively, most of the engineers and data scientists I work with hate working with it, everything seems like a halfbaked implementation of stuff in synapse, adf and Power BI premium but somehow worse, and their documentation is increasingly unhelpful.

I really liked what they did with type matching too, and that shines literally are a different type, had an absolute blast with the game, plays really well on the deck (though it absolutely eats battery life), sticker system was really cool too, just in general they really did a stellar job of interesting systems and the story was interesting too.

Thinking about it now, I kinda almost want to call it a Pokémon/Golden Sun like? Golden sun had a really awesome system with Djinns where mixing different elements and changing if they were set would literally change that characters class, granted them totally different powers and stats, I’m operating on memory since it’s been a long time but it’s an amazing game, easily my favourite GBA title and I knew there was another game it was reminding me of.

I’ve used Thunderbird since forever as my go-to client, I used mutt as well for a while and that met my needs pretty well.

The ones I have have some speakers aimed at your ear to fill in that part, actually works really well. I can’t stand the ear buds you physically insert into your ears, the rubber tipped ones, these have been good to replace my on ears for activity. Plus you can hear what’s around you which is why my partner gifted me them.

For me, something to either research or look into later. Not a work task but either supports them it just pure interest.

Yeah it’s inspired somewhat by bullet journalling, I just found a version of it I could stick to.

What is the flavour of them? You don’t see them on shelves here, my partner grabbed rootbeer a while back and it was foul, like overwhelming chicory flavour I think?

Cove does this type of stuff that actually tastes decent if you want an occasional soft drink, they do kombucha too, there’s stevia sweetened brands too out there.

Ultimately use what works for you, digital only doesn’t for me, I end up using whatever project tool the project uses (often az devops or jira) for large tasks, but I’ve kept logbooks/journals since uni using a symbol system that makes sense to me, refine it over time especially in the last 8 years or so. A star is important, ? Bubble is investigation, o is a regular task/thought, arrows for sub/related thoughts. Also like to tag my commit messages with my ticket/item number, some systems auto link them but even without, nice to have that linkage for recollection.

I’m not the best at indexing but everything is dated, memory is usually solid enough to recall the types of work I did in a period so been able to pull up past stuff pretty readily when need be. I have ADHD so found that externalised thought works well for me, I tend to spend a bit in the morning reviewing the day prior or time at the end of the day moving stuff I’ve not got to. Generally they’re notes while working, just to capture frame of mind or future ideas. I could see using markdown for the same idea, but I’ve seen suggestions that paper notes are better for retention and anecdotally I’ve found that to be true.

Has actually helped a few times for cyoa purposes, but that’s a secondary benefit to me. My email inbox is horrendous (so much advertising and spam emails for people who don’t work here anymore but were on my team so they’re forwarded to me), even my BACN filters aren’t perfect and I frankly don’t bother reading everything. Should delete or purge more often but if it’s important, I’ll read it and make a ticket.
