You may check about the “Late Bronze Age Collapse” if you want a hope ;
And or remember it was as hard to imagine the USSR collapse from a 1988 point of view.

Excuse my curiosity, put as a non-american I don’t understand one thing: since you have only two candidates at elections, you do not vote for a candidate but against their opponent, right?
I do not know the two others, but of course neither Hittler nor Ben Laden. Who are the two others?

Why not “Mexico del Norte”? A bit like for Korea…

It has been a time, not that long ago, when becoming american was wished by many. At that time, being resident of a territory absorbed by the USA would have been regarded as a chance by a large part of those living it, and jealoused by many near by territories.
The negative reactions to Trump’s dreams of expension are the clear mark of the failure of his politics.

Thanks, it makes it more clear…

Excuse me to be naive, but since democrats voted against slavery abrogation, how can it be seen as anything else than a far-right party?
Republican are clearly far-rightists too, ok… but still…

I would love to find good ideas for protecting digital freedom, and freedom in general. May we can assume that those who do not care about privacy aren’t using Lemmy… But I don’t know how to protect ours except by defending it as a principle that should be universal.
And so a rule to restrict freedom except for us is not a good news to me. It is not as bad as if we were concerned directly, but it is still a step backward. Isn’t it?

At some point they may need a new target, and we could be one. We are known by the general public while we are neither too much nor too powerful. And nobody would defend us beside those already targeted.

I know it is not the aim, I am concerned by how it may be used against free softwares… once more, I hope I am wrong.
Also, I am concerned by the loss of freedom involved by this policy. And I don’t think it is made to protect any one, just to restrict and control.

USA murdered anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti far before they became a significant threat to the system. What ever tries to bring freedom is so scared by american authorities… But once more, hopefully you are right and I am just overly pessimistic.

I hope you are right.
Yet do you know if the thing implemented by California would allow criminals to make sure that a kid is really a kid before they attack? Because if that is the case, and even if it needs a hack to do so, it may do the opposit of its aim.

So if you want to protect your kids from adult rated content, and you live in California, you need to buy a propietary system. Which make sure data collectors get to know all about them, and therefore doesn’t protect them… But am I the only one to see the commercial argument about to be used by MS, Apple, and others?

It seems it was so common, at that time and this place to publicly claim religious things, that it is quite unlikely there is not at least one guy that matches less or more the one of the texts… texts which are written far after…
Anyway, the author isn’t the main character. The writers wrote texts, but the author who foundate the religion by making the bible as it is, is the one who collected texts, selected some, decided the order, and supervised the translation. Who is it?
Do you feel like the civilization you live in as a positive effect to prevent this crisis?
If the civilization I live in collapse, that would be an harsh chaos for us, but for climate and therefore future generations I really think it would be a positive event…
We have far less fears to see our civilzations collapse than we had at that time… Isn’t it kind of positive to have some hopes?
Companies use windows at work, because it was used in school. Rather than adapt employees to Linux, better pay for windows (many go for very old and dangerous versions to spare money, and that threaten economy, but it is cheaper).
If workers know Linux, companies would make them work on Linux, rather than pay windows and adapt workers to windows.
As long as Linux is more likely to prevent massive hacks of companies’datas, the gouvernment should push for Linux at school in order to push companies toward their own safety…

You can already make them agree on the fact that if less companies have their datas, they have less risk to see them stolen and misused by hackers…
So that they may begin to feel the=r datas worthy to be protected.
Just as example of what datas may be used for, a french company got a few million euros stolen because an employee (and the boss) had let enough datas online so that hackers could pretend to be the boss and need a big amoult of money sent asap to a fiscal paradise account ; for corruption needed to maintaining the company and therefore the jobs…
That is interesting, and I genuinely wonder if a table of people sent to some “gulag like” prison could be done by leader and per year at power. So it would be easier to compare… even if we add some other leaders from other countries later…
