Like, because that would be too lenient of a punishment? Is that why? Should we amp it up a bit then?
I like stinky tofu a lot. I’m Canadian. I’m excited to see my country grow. I’m new to lemmy. I prefer local communities over public ones, until I’m convinced otherwise. I’m bad at writing bios.

Almost certainly yes.
Fabricating ID is what is going to be illegal in literally any country, though if you fabricated the ID type of another country, your home country may or may not consider this illegal.
Bypassing biometric scan will be illegal in the jurisdiction that the law is enforced if its done with the purposes of bypassing a national law.
Depending on how archaic your legal system is, it may even be prosecutable if only because you violated the policy of a business in your same nation.
Because we live in a dystopian hell hole you’ll also need to at least consider legal alliances between countries or organizations such as Interpol.
This is all a bit of a mix of what the proposed laws are looking like, and some cautious approximation, and some good ol’ sense.
I’m going to do it anyway if I need to use a service that requires it, even if it breaks local laws.
Using a trusted VPN (Mullvad for instance) alongside fake credentials would better protect you but your games are also tied to your personal accounts unless you’ve created new ones on a VPN (or Tor).
You would then need to ensure you never log into that account without the VPN, and should use an OS without overreaching telemetry, and use a single-use burner email always with VPN and a payment method not traceable to you such as a prepaid card or gift card purchased in a place without clear cameras and with cash that’s been shuffled around a little bit, rather than from your bank.
And even still, I’m missing a ton of other identifying factors, and nothing is guaranteed, and many Tor nodes are compromised, and VPN laws could change and buildings could be raided and even with no logs in theory your data could be extracted from frozen RAM.
Basically what I’m saying is if you want to hide from the law, you’d better do it right. Or you’d better do it to stand by your principles, knowing the risk. Or you’d better comply - that last one is what they want you to do. OR… you never interact with any service that requires these systems, because that’s the only way to kill them before they become even worse.
Enjoy the gaming!

You know how people have been doing those horrible crimes where they destroy datacentres?
I hope people don’t realize the same thing can be done to places like Google’s offices. But if they do, I also hope they’d be responsible enough to make sure no low/mid level employees were in the building. I bet, and this is just too sad, that the executives would be the prime targets 😔
That would be tragic. Super duper tragic.
So tragic.
Tragic.

How strict are we on the Lemmy.world instance in terms of what we can say?
Because I’m gonna express what I’m thinking in one way or another, it’s just a matter of how bluntly I can say it on a regular basis.

It certainly is. If you wanna feel like you’ve rewound 10 years in the past, you gotta pony up. And even still everything feels wrong.
But in the interim, before the bubble pops, I do see the value in having no AI as a feature, especially when the immediate alternative is “go fuck yourself”.
One payment for actual slop removal, priced by devs properly to allow them somewhat equivalent revenue compared to if you were being data harvested - that’s basically the only good way to do it if we’re gonna do it.
No micro transactions and no double or triple or quadruple or quintuple or sextuple dipping on larger payments either.
When did everything become a fever dream?

Somebody smarter than I will definitely delve into the guts of incoming Chinese EVs and figure out what part(s) to strip to stop this…
And if you’re in America and you have an EV, it’s statistically likely to be a Tesla. Tesla has starlink compatibility baked into their cars too and you’d better believe that sweet juicy data is being shared around.
If I was stuck with a Tesla against my will, I’d at least try the same thing for it, too.

Please do not comply with this. If you really want to access services that require ID/face verification, I’d recommend checking for ways to create fake identification documents and spoof facial scans.
Yes I know this is illegal. Do what you do at your own risk.
It is possible to do that. The best solution is to simply not interact with any service that asks, but I know that’s not feasible for all.

I guess I’m of the mindset that even running this as a local model, it’s a waste of electricity. And the guy posted it on Github, inevitably some other fools will try it with cloud models, especially since it’s made the news. And obviously we know how bad the cloud models are.
And the difference I see between this and playing a videogame is that a videogame is doing something valuable - and yes I will argue with anyone who tells me that art and entertainment don’t hold real value - while this is just akin to running the AC when you go on vacation, it’s just wasteful no matter how I look at it.

The new modus operandi of The United States, it seems.

Good time to mention,
Check out the EFF’s ‘Cover your tracks’ site.
Lots of us know about traditional tracking methods but one that doesn’t get enough attention imo is canvas fingerprinting.
Its easy to utilize countermeasures and its worth the time. Canvas fingerprinting is awful.

Actually they’re torturing humanity by wasting electricity and water which affects real people in real ways.
I know we’re not stopping foolish use of LLMs any time soon but this is very, very, very, very stupid.

She is a convicted murderer. Her sentence was death. Her attorney even requested death by hanging but the request was denied.
So be it. But the state has failed to hand down the stipulated punishment. The fact is that her punishment resulted in a different outcome than what was deemed to be just.
Doesn’t matter who it is, doesn’t matter why it happened, doesn’t matter how it happened. This was and is a horrendous miscarriage of justice.
The above are just facts. I’m no judge or lawyer, and I can’t be the one to decide what happens next. However, in my opinion, she is owed something. I don’t know what that something is. But what happened isn’t right and was not her fault.
So while you’d “just let her rot”, it’s my opinion that this would not be in the spirit of a just and competent legal system.
Ok my answer is going to be a little disappointing, but I thought about it for a bit and here’s what I can say…
Usually I read a book or I watch a film, I don’t think I’ve ever done both for the same story. Sometimes there is no equivalent book or film, and when there is, I personally just end up choosing whatever format my gut says to try.
If I’ve imagined a universe and story in my mind (from a book), or had the experience delivered to me (in a film), I don’t want them to conflict so I just choose one. Probably because I see so many debates about this online and I’m just like, “nah I’m not getting involved”.
I’m actually probably the worst qualified person to give an opinion on that!! But I recognize I’m probably a weirdo, as I don’t even watch film trailers or read the synopsis of books before I read/watch them. I just kinda hear about it however that happens, and decide to either skip or jump in. The exception to this being non-fiction or educational stuff, then it matters a bit more.
I guess, I just wanna enjoy (or dislike) a story and leave it at that.
Sorry for the total non-answer. But now you’ve got me curious, what’s your answer? Maybe I’ll make an exception for Grandwolf319 haha
I’ll be back within a day, you’d better have your topic of conversation prepared!

I didn’t know pasta was on the lemonade stand’s menu!
Speaking of pasta, Italy has such a vibrant food culture don’t they? Speaking of Italy, wasn’t Luigi Mangione an Italian American citizen? Boy, what he did sure was a shame… But these streets, they’re just too full of criminals these days…

Lmao judging by those photos he filed a request to blur his property on Google street view. How incredibly ironic.
However I’m sure there are many photos of the street with the public toilet elsewhere if you want to see it in all its shit-covered glory.
Edit: oh perhaps I am mistaken. The Flock CEO’s name is Garret Langley, but my maps app says the address of 2588 Winslow Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30305, United States is actually Jeff’s Lemonade Shop.
I would love to go try some lemonade!

I shine bright like a diamond, but that requires sunlight

Every three letter agency can suck my tiny little cock

The article says it seems to have been an organized group. I wonder how one gets into such a group?
Like, do they just send somebody a private message on a decentralized platform with a link to some sort of encrypted messaging app or something?
Unrelated, my inbox is open to anyone wanting to just say hi!
No I am not kidding.
Call me when a single positive change occurs as a result of this.
I’ll have landline installed at my grave.
