If you punish an adult (within social norms) you mostly get negative results. If you give them grace you might not get it in return but you also are less likely to suffer.

I recently proposed a solution to my boss (who’s older than I am, but not by much) regarding a technical problem we have been having the last few days. He said “that won’t get you anywhere. Ask Gemini.”

Reluctantly, I did. Besides asking it how to disable it, it was the first time I (sort of) voluntarily interacted with it.

It made three suggestions. Two didn’t work. The other one was the solution I proposed to my boss. I told him that (more politely) and he said he wasn’t really interested in addressing the problem anyway and that I should move on.

Back when Supernatural was current I encountered a cashier who had the antipossession tattoo visible. I asked them whether it was from the show. I expected them to be happy that it was recognized but they just gave me a funny look and said “yeah.”

Didn’t say much of anything after that. I mean, I was making a purchase so it wasn’t a close social interaction anyway.

I went to college from 11-15. When I graduated my parents gave me a bit of time then said that I had the choice of getting a job or going back to school.

I started working at a convenience store. So far it’s worked out for me but realistically I should have kept going.

Well, that just makes me feel sorry for whomever ended up buying it.

My wife works at a company that auctions off machinery of all types. The week before an auction, they let anyone who registered come into their lot and try out the equipment. You’re not allowed to move it much, but you can try out basically any other function.

I’ve operated all kinds of machinery I had no right to even try. Stuff that dwarfs me and/or could kill me at a moment’s notice. I didn’t usually try the bigger scarier stuff, but even machines like excavators, tractors, party busses, and super cars were enough to thrill me.

My wife’s work wallpaper is of me in the driver’s seat of a firetruck. I feel bad about that one - I accidentally triggered the siren and couldn’t figure out how to turn it off. By the time I was ready to ask for help the yard crew had left. I really tried to figure it out or recruit help, but I ended up just leaving with it still on.
