Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your opinion on the recent decompilations of games and for-profit software? What do you feel about the use of AI in these projects?
161·4 days agoRecompilations are excellent.
The slop-based recompilations are worse than useless because:
-
They discourage humans from making recompilations based on the hard work of understanding the target software, since “There is already a recompilation.”
-
Slop recompilations “authors” typically don’t understand the target software well enough to implement the typical 10% of functionality the LLM fails to furnish.
-
The LLM generates such unreadable code that not even god could debug it. So it might as well be a binary itself.

74·5 days agoThe Fresno police department said that the ICE official was receiving medical care after being shot in the midsection. The official, identified as David Gonzalez, is facing felony charges for assaulting the father-daughter duo
“Gonzales” is a hell of a last name for a hired ethnic cleanser in California.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?
11·11 days agoCoffee Quake 2, a collection of 132 player-created Quake maps, each with an expected play time of about five minutes- roughly the length of a coffee break.
https://www.slipseer.com/index.php?resources/coffee-quake-2-double-shot.213/
The maps’ brevity keeps things feeling fresh. There’s some unevenness but I can say this much for even the weakest inclusions: They’re short.
The first Coffee Quake is also good fun.

Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit is killing RSS feeds and ending public API access because of AI botsEnglish
17·15 days agoEnding the public API also prevents reddit users from deleting their post history without manually removing each post.
If you want to scrub your post history and prevent reddit from profiting from your input, use Power Delete Suite while you still can.
https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite
It is unlikely that reddit allows users to delete their content from the backend but this at least keeps your posts out of search results, which is a large part of their value.

5·16 days agoPerhaps NASA is doing it to make a trophy that might impress the imbecile emperor in hopes of securing funding for space science.
Like in Rainbow Mars when the Time Travel Bureau has to go on safari to capture extinct pets for their imbecile emperor.

15·16 days agoLight web searching suggests that neither the automobile industry as a whole nor the health insurance industry as a whole exceed $3 trillion in annual global revenue. Which means the plagiarism-to-slop pipeline just needs to make a little bit more than the automobile and health insurance industries combined to justify itself.

Rap artists have to clear every last sample or they don’t own the copyright to their work- but when tech oligarchs pirate every ebook ever made and use it to build plagiarism engines, it is not just legal, they will get a bailout if their slop doesn’t turn a profit.

Thanks for the heads up. I thought I could add a thumbnail to the article but apparently I don’t fully grasp Lemmy’s UI yet.
