Oh gawd this is so goddamned stupid.

Even dumber is when I see so-called leftists and centrists and moderates (whatever the fuck that means to even be “moderate” or “centrist” between civilized human beings and Nazis), go all “WELL ACKTUALLY” on it, to boot.

The cons have had a certain class of people they have whipped up into a frenzy over Section 230. They believe that these gigantic MNCs have been violating their free speech or something because of it.

They also say ridiculous things like these guys are somehow getting away with something because they regulate crazy things (or don’t platform RW nutbars) being said on their platform - such as spreading dangerously stupid and wrong conspiracy theories about a goddamned pandemic that was killing millions - and are being both media news companies and regulating speech and something something argle bargle the wingers are very butthurt about it and they have some complaints that they cannot really articulate.

But it all originates with positively outlandish idea that “Big Tech” is liberal. 🤣

If they manage to repeal section 230 I think it’ll push to some degree social media to decentralized/peer to peer platforms.

People having a conversation this way without a third party (facebook forex) would be better protected by the first amendment, since the government can sue penalize facebook for stuff people say on their platform, but you and friends, not so much.

I’m really hopeful that what comes after lemmy/the fediverse is based on tech out of the https://spritely.institute/

I highly doubt that would be the outcome. Suing the crap out of someone operating the modern-day equivalent of the BBS would be a great way to chill free speech.

    Yes Mark.

Shoot your meta AI business model in the face, after abandoning the multi billion dollar metaverse.

    Sounds like a good idea.

Dick Durbin is a traitor to the American people, I wouldn’t be too forward-looking about any committee decision he plays a part in.
