The Louisiana Republican announced on Wednesday morning on an all-staff call that he will not run for House minority leader for the new Congress next year, following Tuesday’s historical Democratic landslide takeover of the House of Representatives.

It’s not clear yet if Johnson has anointed a successor to lead the Republican caucus. Representative Jim Jordan, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has already thrown his hat into the ring and announced he’s running for House minority leader. According to Punchbowl News, Jordan’s pitch will be that new blood is needed and that he specializes in investigations.

The current number two Republican in the House, Representative Steve Scalise, also announced that he is running for caucus leader.

I’m every single photo I’ve ever seen of him, he just looks confused to hell. Like he’s having super early dementia.

I mean I know he’s just plain evil, but he looks confused as hell, and Patel always looks awkward as fuck.

They’re eating their young. I’m sending (yet another) e-mail to our RethugliKKKan Senator, asking if she regrets not removing it from office as I demanded so many times in the past. Her reply will be priceless.

For them, protecting pedophiles right now, is a requirement…not an option. Democrats are going to be investigating everyone, so they need someone in charge with experience at covering shit up.

Dem leaders like Schumer, Pelosi and Jeffries are also toxic. No one voted FOR the centrists, they voted against the republicans. Centrist leaders need to know that that they and their policies are hated, with only slightly less fire than republicans.

I was struggling yesterday to remember whst this guys name is. He just carries trumps diaper bag now and rubber stamps his crimes. He didnt quit leadership, he got sidelined. Like all trumps allies, its only a matter of time until trump backstabs or scapegoats them.

Yes, and Importantly, covered it up for years. Which is exactly what the Republicans want right now. The Dem leadership is definitely going to use their powers to investigate all the shit the Republicans have been covering up, including that. Actually going after the pedophiles the Republicans have been hyping their base up about for the last decade or so is a good way to maintain some support from voters that crossed over this election. The Dems don’t have an issue cleaning their own house, even when it isn’t really warranted like Al Franken, so it’s not really a threat for them.

And exposing the pedophile members of Congress is a good way to start cleaning house. Congress can expel members, and while generally uncommon other than the Confederates expelled in 1861/1862, in the House, James Traficant was expelled in 2002 and George Santos was expelled in 2023. In the Senate, John Ensign was going to be expelled in 2011 but he chose to resign before that happened. It’s uncommon, but isn’t some long lost capability no one knows about anymore.

They’ll pick him. Because that’s exactly what they need. They need someone to help cover up everything from the Dem investigations.

Have you heard Trump talk? He hasn’t been able to finish a single coherent sentence for years now. It’s most obvious when you try to read a transcript of what he says. It’s all catchphrases and little clips strung together as if they form sentences. And their propaganda network has to cut it up to make a coherent thought from it. But that’s what they already do anyway, probably why his dementia has made him talk like that in the first place now.

It’s going to be Scalisce. The donors won’t touch Jordon. Aside from being a degenerate, he’s also a moron and a bad hang.

Yep. Even among Rs the leader has to be able to work with all, and Gym Jordan does NOT have that ability. Last time he was in the running for leadership, in multiple rounds of voting he only ever lost votes, never gained.

On the other hand, I can’t even count the number of times Scalise has almost been Republican leader and then lost to someone else. I mean almost every single Congress for the last dozen years, and specifically against Keven McCarthy more than once. Scalise has also been whip at least once, which is a help, and they all seem to like him.

So yeah, Scalise was my first thought as well. But all those other times he was actively campaigning for leadership, and there is the possibility he may not want it now, in which case it’s anybody’s guess.

But it won’t be Jordan, any more than it would ever be Ted Cruz: they just don’t like him that much, and he’s a bully. Republicans like bullies in general; they just don’t like being bullied.

I also think it’s telling that in 2023, the one time Jordan actually got close to being Speaker for a hot second because they just couldn’t pick one after multiple rounds of voting, they finally removed Jordan from the race for Speaker by secret ballot.

I think you’re right. It’s possible but HIGHLY unlikely that the minority leader will be Jordan, IMO.

Scalise has been cruising on the “I got shot” thing for a while now.

I guess when your party is feckless and vapid, you hold onto any “story” you can get.

But I’m convinced that him getting shot was the best thing to ever happen to his career as a Republican politician.
